Internship Program

Pierce Associates offers enthusiastic University students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through our company’s Internship Program. Interns are exposed to many facets of the mechanical contracting industry while applying the knowledge gained during their college coursework. We employ ambitious and creative students as interns with the desire of developing relationships leading to permanent career opportunities with our company. Pierce Associates typically employs students of Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Mechanical Engineering Programs; however, students of other disciplines are welcome to contact us as well.

Pierce Associates is one of the most prominent mechanical contractors in the greater metropolitan Washington, DC area. We were founded in 1961 and self-perform the plumbing, steam fitting and sheet metal disciplines on large commercial and institutional projects. In addition to employing hundreds of skilled union craftsmen, we maintain an experienced staff of seasoned construction professionals to manage our projects. We use our Internship Program as a major source to attract outstanding candidates into our professional management staff. Interns typically work in our main office in Alexandria, VA, or at one of our jobsite office locations in the Washington, DC area. Each intern is assigned a “mentor” who is responsible for the interns’ day-to-day assignments. Some of the tasks performed by an intern include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing quantity take-off and estimating of mechanical & plumbing work
  • Solicitation of proposals, material & equipment from vendors and subcontractors
  • Reviewing and processing coordinated drawings, submittals & shop drawings
  • Reviewing and processing RFI’s (requests for information)
  • Building & updating Primavera P3 project schedules
  • Reviewing installed work for completion as well as compliance with plans & specifications
  • Assisting in analyzing labor productivity and overall project costs control & analysis
  • Attending various meetings to gain experience while representing Pierce Associates
  • Other assigned tasks as required to assist the project team
